SMS Opt-In and Call to Action

Last updated: October 23, 2026

This page documents, in full, how consent to receive text messages is obtained from consumers. It is published so that mobile carriers and their reviewers can verify the complete consent experience.

The call to action, word for word

Consent is requested out loud, by the business, before any message is sent. The assistant must speak all four disclosures — message types, frequency, rates, and how to opt out — before asking the question. The example below uses a live customer, Summit Heating & Air, whose calls are answered by an assistant named Casey.

CALLER
(telephones Summit Heating & Air)

BUSINESS
“Thanks for calling Summit Heating and Air, this is Casey. Are we dealing with no heat, no cooling, or can I get you a price on something?”

CALLER
(describes the problem and asks for an appointment)

BUSINESS
“I can get you in Tuesday at 2:30 or Wednesday at 10. Which suits?”

CALLER
“Tuesday works.”

BUSINESS — the call to action
“Perfect. Summit Heating and Air can text you a confirmation now and a reminder before your appointment — that's usually just a couple of messages. Message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP any time to opt out. Is it alright if we text you?”

CALLER
“Yes, that's fine.”

BUSINESS
“Let me book that for you now, one moment.”

If the consumer declines, no message is sent and no further offer to text is made. Consent to receive text messages is requested separately and explicitly; it is not bundled with any other permission.

How consent is recorded

The consumer's answer is stored against the call and the appointment at the moment it is given, as a yes or no value on the appointment record. Messages are only sent where that value is yes. An explicit refusal blocks every message for that appointment. Call recordings and transcripts are retained for customers who enable them, and can be produced on request as evidence of a specific consent.

The first message a consumer receives

Summit Heating & Air: You're confirmed for 10/07/2026 at 2:30 PM. You'll receive appointment updates from us. Msg freq varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply C to cancel, HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

Data handling

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile numbers are shared only with the telecommunications providers needed to deliver the message, and with the business the consumer contacted. We do not buy, rent or import contact lists, and we do not message anyone who has not telephoned the business first.
